Brouadou is located 12 kilometers from Kissidougou, in southeast Guinea. With around 1,800 inhabitants, most of whom make a living with simple agriculture, it is a typical African village, surrounded by lush vegetation. Electricity and portable water are project for distant future. The education of children is in the hands of local authorities, volunteers and charitable organizations.
The community of Brouadou represented a turning point in my view and understanding of Africa. The incredible energy of the children, who excitedly ran on the pathway way under mango trees to the school in the morning, chatting kindly and greeting me, impressed me and filled with happiness.
The first FARO project that served as the basis for the future activities, was a donation of school supplies in January 2009. After raising money with friends and family in Slovenia, I bought school supplies, books and sports equipment. Accompanied by the school director and sister Justine, who runs the local clinic and pharmacy, I donated gifts to the elementary school in Brouadou.
The Guinea donation project is part of FARO, a voluntary and 100% donor-funded initiative serving to improve the quality of life of underprivileged children in developing countries. Read more about FARO at this link.
