Oceania

Laid-back way of life, connection to nature and the ocean

Oceania is the smallest continent in the world, consisting of 14 countries and features thousands of islands surrounded by water of Central and South Pacific: Australia, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, New Zealand, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu.

Oceania is rich in diversity, extending well beyond its idyllic white sand beaches and palm trees. Each island within its extensive archipelagos boasts distinct characteristics and indigenous customs.

Considering the fact that the only country that I visited in Oceania is Australia, I am still in the early stage of exploring this continent.

Endemic animals, laid-back way of life, Asian influence

I visited Australia twice in a span of 24 years. The first trip was part of Asian Big Tour, in contrast to the second travel experience, which was a family journey, specifically orientated to robotic competition.

Besides being home to several endemic species, including koalas, emus, and kangaroos, Australia offers a multitude of unique landscapes and experiences that are rarely found on other continents. The multi-ethnic population, significantly influenced by Asian culture, left a lasting impression on me with its laid-back and easygoing way of life.

The outstanding countries on this continent are definitely Australia and New Zealand.

Both in terms of size, number of inhabitants, economic development, as well as the possibilities they offer to foreign visitors. All other countries are relatively small and difficult (read expensive) to access. Given these restrictions, my plan is to visit them in a package of no more than a couple of visits. Most likely, this will involve two individual trips with island hoping and hopefully also in including some travel by sea.
