FARO donation initiative - Kids in Gambia receive donated bicycles

Estimated reading time: 2 minutes

The FARO donation initiative in Gambia in 2025 contributed support to local child sponsorship programs as part of the wider FARO effort.

Although The Gambia is a popular tourist destination in West Africa, many rural inhabitants still live in poverty.

My mother visited Kerewan Samba Sira village, where the Slovenian humanitarian organization Društvo Za Otroke Sveta is highly active. Their primary focus is on providing education to impoverished children and supporting their path toward independence.

We used the funds collected from friends and family to buy school supplies, bicycles and food ingredients, which were later prepared for young students. As part of her volunteer activity, my mother spent a week working at a kindergarten and an orphanage.

She also planted pineapple and hazelnut trees and helped harvest cotton. She also helped sorting the seeds, learned how yarn is made, and tested how cloths are woven on looms.

We donated bicycles to the students. This will save them from the 9-kilometer walk they currently have to make to reach school. Additionally, these bikes will serve other community members in the afternoon.

FARO donation initiative in Gambia is part of FARO, a voluntary program fully funded by donors. It aims to improve life for marginalized children in developing countries. You can learn more about FARO by reading the information at this link.
