FARO donation initiative in Haiti - Rok with aid for earthquake survivors

Estimated reading time: 2 minutes

FARO donation initiative in Haiti was aimed at helping those affected by the severe earthquake that hit the poorest country in the Americas.

On January 12, 2010, a devastating earthquake with a magnitude of 7 on the Richter scale struck southern Haiti. Its epicenter was near Léogâne, approximately 25 km west of the capital Port-au-Prince. The Red Cross reported that three million people were impacted. According to official figures, 222,570 people were killed, 300,000 injured and 1.3 million displaced.

While living in Panama at that time, I immediately decided to donate food and medicine for those who survived the earthquake.

Similar to the first two FARO projects, money was collected from friends in Slovenia and this time also in Panama. We purchased food and medicine, packed them for shipment, and transported them to the Panamanian Red Cross, which would subsequently deliver them to Haiti.

Unlike the first two projects, a FARO representative did not directly oversee the aid delivery in Haiti. Several factors made such supervision unfeasible.

FARO donation initiative in Haiti is part of FARO, a voluntary program fully funded by donors. It aims to improve life for marginalized children in developing countries. You can learn more about FARO by reading the information at this link.
